About

Health and ownership checks for MCP servers — Security and Certainty before you install.

What this is

The MCP Census is a live product at mcpcensus.com: free lookup plus REST and MCP APIs that check servers in the Model Context Protocol ecosystem against public evidence (registry, GitHub, npm, PyPI, hosted endpoints, citations).

Wedge: the registry tells you a server exists. The census tells you if you should trust it — with evidence you can open, including honest “can’t verify yet.”

How we work

The census runs continuously. Automated pipelines re-harvest the registry every day, re-verify every server on a rolling cycle, probe live endpoints, and cross-reference adoption evidence across GitHub, npm, PyPI and public catalogues.

Our methodology is published in full and our numbers are public. Every trust factor links to the evidence behind it, and where something cannot be verified we say so rather than estimate. Operating entity and contact details: Terms.

What we are not

  • Not the official MCP registry
  • Not a malware scanner or full application security audit
  • Not a directory that ranks by stars alone
  • Not affiliated with every vendor whose brand appears in a search

Product surfaces

  • Lookup — dense trust table
  • Coverage — live census totals and brand audit
  • Learn — reference material for humans and agents
  • API — REST + MCP
  • Methodology — how scores and badges work
  • Status — live counters
